Henry E. Luther
Private, Company G

Private Luther was born about 1846, in Porter County, Indiana.
 
He had 1 brother who also served in the war:
Amos O. Luther, Musician,  Cos. F & S, 20th Indiana Infantry
Henry enlisted in Comapny G, 7th Indiana Cavalry on Sept, 5, 1863. Some time later he transfered to 3rd U.S. Artillery. The date and reason for the transfer are unknown. Based on a letter in the Indiana Historical Society Collection, to his father, he was with the 7th on Dec 22,  1863.
 
His parents were James H. & Calista Luther, both born in New York. Calista died when Henry was about 2 years old. James remarried and moved the family to Crown Point, Indiana. Henry was a member of Lake Lodge, No 157, F & AM, also in Crown Point.

After the war, Henry went to live in California, due to health conditions. In November 1875, he went to his brothers' in Boulder, Colorado. There he died from consumption on December 1, 1875. He is burried in Columbia Cemetary, Boulder Colorado, next to his brother Amos.

There is no known record of him being married.
